Hinetakurua, known as the winter maiden, sister of Hineraumati and wife of Tamanuiterā - the sun god. The story of Hinetakurua, Hineraumati and their shared husband explains the Māori perspective on the suns journey and seasonal changes through his division of time between his two wives. Hinetakurua dwells in the ocean where she plays an important role in ensuring the supply of fish and seafoods.
